This blog was supposed to address Frontline staff issues, but it looks like everyone has real issues with managers only. Hopefully things will change and like someone has stated, we all want to belong to a serious organisation. Now talking about managers/staff relations. Here's a question we might need to treat:
Every Xmas, we see a number of staff sending emails to colleagues to collect money for a special gift to managers, including watches, expensive stationary, gift certificates, etc.
I find that it is just another a** kissing habit. What do you think?

  1. Not every good gesture to a manager is a ***kissing habit, maybe some of those staff you mention are actually grateful for some reason? Besides, nobody is forced to pitch in for a gift…you can always decline

  2. Generally, there’s nothing wrong with exchanging gifts on occasions like Xmas or the New Year. However, it is true that this has become a bit too much when gifts cost 100 +. I’m sure many are annoyed by the fact that they have to contribute to something they don’t even approve. I found that those who contribute or lead the collection are usually the newcomers. Maybe it’s a way to secure a safe probation period.

I guess we need to go back to the classical greeting postcards or chocolate. It’s the thought that counts anyways.
